The New Era of Outdoor Advertising

Just over a year ago, Greenin introduced new supports that purify the surrounding air through Outdoor Puricity.

In a significant step forward for sustainability and air quality, a fleet of 14 buses from the TUSGSAL company began circulating in the metropolitan area of Barcelona with a new-fangled feature: advertising vinyls that purifies the air as they move.

This innovative project was exhibit at a public event at the Port of Badalona, marking a milestone in the outdoor advertising industry in Spain.

It was implemented with the ‘Órbita’ protocol, developed by the mobility group Direxis in collaboration with Teletransfer, Endutex, and of course Greenin. This protocol is the first of its kind in the country.

A sustainable and purifying protocol introducing apprehensivephases in the production of advertising supports.

  • The phases include an ecological printing process using water-based inks.
  • The use of PVC-free materials.
  • The air purification system*.
  • A fully certified recycling process.

Since then, we have conducted various innovative advertising campaigns been. Here, we share with you how Photocatalytic Puricity works, that we have used to purify air when applied to vinyl’s in buses, however it can also be used on other surfaces (including billboards).

*Advertising vinyl’s on buses are treated with a layer composed of water and nanoparticles from titanium dioxide (TiO2). Through a process called photocatalysis, a chemical reaction is triggered that transforms the air pollutant particles, especially nitrogen oxides (NOx: NO and NO2), into harmless particles like NO3 and even water.

How can we understand the Purification Capacity in these advertising supports?

Even though at the moment of launching, we were making equivalence with the purification capacity from trees, thanks to the development on subsequent research and tests that we have done since then; it’s more accurate to declare the purification capabilities of these supports that can achieve in contrast to the quantity of pollution generated by a specific number of vehicles in the transit area or location of the supports.

For our launch campaign, considering that a bus is covered with 54 m2 of vinyl that purifies the air, the 14 buses purified the pollutants particles produced by the combustion of approximately 240 vehicles during the campaign.

Photocatalysis Technology

This technology has been supported by various studies, companies, and institutions and has been recognized as part of the European Union’s iScape project to purify cities on the continent.

This progress not only benefits the planet but is also innately linked to people’s well-being. According to the World Health Organization, currently, 9 out of 10 people breathe polluted air, and this pollution causes approximately 9 million deaths each year. Cities are especially concern about this issue, therefore initiatives like this one are crucial to counteract their harmful effects.

With our actions, we have set a new standard in outdoor advertising, demonstrating that it is possible to combine product and service promotion with environmental protection.

This exciting project has laid the preliminaries for a future where advertising and sustainability go hand in hand.

Therefore, we continue working on evolutionary initiatives like Puricity with Microalgae.

Another Innovative Technology that we are driving power: The use of these tiny aquatic plants plays a key role in our sustainable advertising and in improving air quality.

First supports of Puricity with microalgae.

Microalgae’s are photosynthetic organisms with the ability to capture carbon dioxide and release oxygen, making them a promising tool for addressing environmental challenges.

We are exploiting the unique properties of microalgae to develop another way to deliver Outdoor Puricity.

These small sunlight-driven plants actively absorb carbon dioxide from the air and transform it into fresh and clean oxygen. Additionally, they can filter other pollutants, such as dust and harmful gases, what actually further improves air quality in urban environments.

As the awareness of climate change and the need for sustainable solutions continues to grow, it is essential to explore and adopt new technologies that allow us to address these challenges effectively. Puricity with microalgae is an exciting and effective example like Puricity photocatalytic of how we can integrate sustainability into different aspects of our daily lives, including commercial promotion.

While this solution is in its early stages of development, we have already refined tests and experiments to perfect its application. In partnership with companies and researchers such as Grupo Eulen and G2G Algae, who we continue working on developing the best ways to allow microalgae to grow and thrive in advertising spaces. Additionally, we are settling the most effective and resilient microalgae’s species for use in this context.

We not only we want to have advertising spaces that clean the air but also aim to create networks of billboards that act as small green lungs in our cities, contributing to the fight against climate change and improving people’s quality of life.

The combination of technologies like photocatalysis and the use of microalgae in outdoor advertising shows how innovation can open new doors to a more sustainable future. Our purpose is not just to promote products and services but to generate a massive positive impact on the environment and our health.
